Welcome To The Food Justice Club Website

Lets push for change together!!

Equality

The first  element of food justice is equality. The issue is that all people deserve equal access to healthy and affordable food sources in their communities. This should remain the same for everyone despite race, culture, age, gender, and financial standing.

Change

The second element of food justice is change.
When given access to healthy food sources it is up to the communties to work together and take advantage of what they are given. As a whole we can change the demographics of obesiety and diabetes in NYC especially in children.

Results

After our communities gain equality in better food and we change the rates of diabetes and obesiety we can continue to strive together to living healthier and happier lifestyles.

Garden Activites

The Mary Mitchell Center works with three community gardens to grow fruits and vegetables to sell at the local Farmers Market. The Food Justice Club works  in the Garden of Hope, growing their own produce and taking the kids on trips to learn the entire process of gardening from start to finish.

Reject the Diet mentality

There is no such thing as “good” or “bad” foods if your stomach craves it because you will give in eventually or feel unsatisfied so its best to honor your hunger unless you want to feel worse.

Challenging the food police

Depending on what you desire to eat try foods that can replace the foods you crave and make them healthy choices so you can start changing to healthier eating habits.

Cope with your emotions without food

Instead of consuming foods without realizing it to cope with your emotions try exercising or meditating because consuming foods to deal with your emotions can become an unhealthy habit that can lead to obesity and/or diabetes.

Exercise

When you not only exercise to lose weight or gain muscle but love doing it, it’s more enjoyable and you tend to do it more without stressing which is better for your physical and mental health.
